Periodical Co-Occurrence Analysis of Korean and International Research Trends on Residential Satisfaction

Abstract

This study employed a co-occurrence analysis to investigate the trends in domestic and international residential satisfaction research. The data for analysis was collected from the Web of Science Core Collectionand the KCI-Korean Database, which yielded 1,897 international papers from 1984 to 2022 and 1,094 Korean papers from 1999 to 2022. Using VOS Viewer, a tool for academic text co-occurrence analysis, the relationship between residential satisfaction and related concepts based on clusters of co- occurring keywords were analyzed. The findings demonstrate that the scope of international residential satisfaction research has expanded over time, with increasing integration of related theories and concepts. Similarly, the considerations for creating residential spaces have broadened. In contrast, domestic research has primarily focused on identifying research questions based on existing theories, rather than exploring new theoretical concepts. Further, themes such as sustainability, green buildings, and community attachment have been studied in the context of the continuous redevelopment of apartments and expanding cities. Finally, subsequent to the COVID-19 crisis, an increased number of studies have been devoted to exploring residential satisfaction, with a corresponding shift in research attention from crimes to diseases as sources of anxiety and stress in residential settings.
