Analysis of the Area and Spatial Structure of New Town Apartment in Vietnam : With a Focus on the Ho Chi Minh City the Phu My Hung Area

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the current characteristics of the unit space area and spatial structure of the PMH new town apartment building as basic data for companies planning to expand into Vietnam and to provide academic data on Vietnamese housing culture. The analytic data is collected via the Internet and it shows that there are 104 units in 19 apartments. The results of this study are as follows: 1) PMH new town apartment is generally 101~160 m2 in size and is of the 3-bedroom type with a rectangular shape, 2) The bedroom occupies the largest portion of the total unit area, and it has a smaller area ratio than that in other countries. Kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms are planned to have a minimum area, and the larger the unit area, the larger the area of the balcony, and 3) The center of the spatial arrangement is the living room and kitchen, keeping the flow of human traffic in mind. The kitchen serves as a multi-purpose space for the family and the living room ensures independence as a common space for the family, while providing an open feeling of space through an organic connection with the kitchen.
