The Relevancy between Characteristics of gated communities and Daily life of residents: based on a survey of Beijing, China

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explores the reason why does gated communities popular in Chinese urban. At present, gated communities already have became a main residential building model in Chinese urban. In fact, this form of residence is widely distributes around the world. Thus, the research of this subject is a meaningful thing to residential building. In addition, the study conducts a generalized description through literature review about the mode of gated communities in Chinese urban, which is relates with gated outdoor, peripheral facilities, public resources near communities. For research purpose, a questionnaire was drafted, it is an important step to verify the correlation between the mode of gated community and citizens’ daily needs. The samples of survey participants are dwellers living in 12 gated communities in nine districts of Beijing. And descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, regression analyses and crosstabs were performed by SPSS based on sampling results. The result of data analyses effectively demonstrates that the formations of gated communities have certainly relationship with residents′requirements. It should be noted that the study focus on features of residential environment and discuss corresponding needs of residents', which is a key factor to housing design.
