The Suggestion of Appropriate Dwelling Area In Cases of Korean Public Rental Housing based on Universal Design

Abstract

This study is a suggestion to an Appropriate dwelling area that Public Rental Housing unit plans based on Universal Design for the healthy dwelling environments. This study through literature review the Housing Standards, Universal Design and Residential behavior. The resulted by study, all Public Rental Housing units hadn’t contained the ‘accessibility’, the ‘usability’ in all dwelling spaces in terms of Universal Design. Therefore required that an additional area to the dwelling area of each types to households in the Korean Public Rental Housing. For the healthy dwelling environments, this study suggest of rethinking about Housing Welfare Policy, Housing Act, and supply criteria of Public Rental Housing as regard to the Korean Public Rental Housing. First, the Housing Welfare Policy should be changed that direction are for quality of life. That is basic for the healthy dwelling environments. Second, Housing Standards in Housing Act must through appropriate dwelling area based on Universal Design. The Universal Design are precondition for the better place and better life. Finally, supply criteria of Public Rental Housing should be changed that based on a number of people per households member which not by special an age group or life cycle. That is a necessary condition about increased one person households.
