Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between vulnerable group types and residential environment satisfaction using the 2023 Korean Welfare Panel Study data. Specifically, the study investigates the direct and indirect effects of vulnerable group types on residential satisfaction, with residential factors as mediators. The analysis revealed that all types of vulnerable groups, including low-income households, single-parent families, and disabled households, showed significantly lower residential satisfaction compared to non-vulnerable groups. Furthermore, residential factors such as housing type, moving experience, and tenure status significantly influenced residential satisfaction, partially mediating the negative impact of vulnerable group types. The findings suggest that economic and social constraints faced by vulnerable groups are key factors lowering their residential satisfaction. The study highlights the need for policies to alleviate housing cost burdens and improve residential conditions for vulnerable populations. Policy implications include enhancing financial support for housing costs and improving the quality of housing infrastructure. Additionally, it recommends increasing access to housing welfare programs to address the housing needs of vulnerable groups. Although the study is limited by its cross-sectional design, it provides a basis for future longitudinal research and policy development to enhance the living conditions of vulnerable groups.
