Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the elderly residents’ recognition, the use of smart home services, necessity, and problems when using smart home services. Furthermore, it is to be used as basic data for smart home services that respond to the characteristics of the elderly and to suggest the direction of smart home for the elderly should go. In this study, a survey was conducted on the actual condition of the elderly welfare housing 'Spring County Xi' and a one-on-one interview with 100 residents living there. The collected data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis (frequency, mean) using the SPSS statistical program, and t-test and ANOVA were performed to verify the difference for each variable. The main research results are as follows; First, the recognition of smart home service differed according to the degree of closeness with daily life. Second, the use of smart home service showed a relatively low level of use, while the level of service necessity was relatively high. Third, it is necessary to simplify the device operation method and enable intuitive use of the smart home service usage method for the elderly. Fourth, it is necessary to develop and apply these services along with safety, convenience, and energy items, reflecting the high need for health items when developing smart home services in the future.
