The Characteristics of New Town Development in Hanoi, Vietnam

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of a process known as new town development in Vietnam. The target area of the study is the Hanoi capital region, in which new town development is actively being promoted by the government, and the objects of the analysis are Ciputra Hanoi, Splendora, and Ecopark. This study attempts to understand the characteristics of the planning optimized of Hanoi by analyzing the master plans and present conditions associated with the phenomenon of new town development. As a result of the analysis, the following characteristics were uncovered in relation to new town development in Hanoi. The quality improvements in housing and the diversification of housing types together provide opportunities associated with a wide range of choices. The integrated city that diverse commercial facilities, public convenience facilities, and educational facilities are planned. A bountiful natural environment is created to provide a pleasant and safe setting, with security managed by a specialized security team. International-level educational facilities and luxury sports facilities are included as strategies for attracting residents, and efforts to enhance the degree of residential satisfaction are also found in the holding of various events and in how public relations and the inhabitants’ community are vitalized.
