Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of satisfaction of residential environment in both metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas, using the Korea Welfare Panel Study Data (KOWEPS). The results of this study are as follows. First, the t-test(test to identify difference in satisfaction with the residential environment) results showed that the nonmetropolitan area has higher overall satisfaction with the residential environment than the metropolitan area in all the years. Second, panel regression analysis shows that non-metropolitan areas have higher satisfaction with residential environment than those in metropolitan area, even though the variables affecting the satisfaction of residential environment are controlled. Third, the analysis shows that in the metropolitan area, housing occupation type, residential location, economic activity participation status, residential area, house price, housing structure, performance and environment, disposable income variable makes positive effect whereas the number of households does negative (-) effect. It shows that in the case of the non-metropolitan area, the housing occupation type, residential location, economic activity participation status, residential area, house price, housing structure, performance and environment, disposable income variable makes positive effect whereas, and education level variables does negative (-) effect.
