Abstract

This study was conducted on the spatial composition of housing plans in Seokbo-myeon traditional villages belonging to the Andong-Yeongnam cultural area of Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gulguji Village in Uljin-gun belonging to the Yeongdong cultural area. For this, the analysis was based on the sketch drawings prepared in the previous researcher’s survey. This study presupposes that there is a contact with the residential cultural area between the east and west of the Taebaek Mountains in Gyeongsangbuk-do, which can be considered a topographical limit. By analyzing the similarity of each other centering on the housing types, it was intended to derive the characteristics of overlapping or changing the spatial composition with the adjacent residential cultural areas. As a result of the study, the plane composition characteristics of the two traditional villages were derived. Based on this, it has a unique regional identity within a specific area of the traditional society, but on the other hand, it was interpreted as a result related to the expansion of the plane to reflect housing needs or regional differentiation. Through these research results, the existence of a certain local residential culture area was confirmed.
