A Study on Types and Configuration Model of Hybrid Hanok

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to propose types and configuration models of Hybrid Hanok by survey convergence cases, and analysing the possibilities of hybridity in the cases. The contents are Hybrid Hanok, which seeks the merits of Hanok and modern architecture. The research procedures are (1) to deals application of hanok in modern architecture by possibilities of traditional Hanok. (2) to analysis cases of Hanok style architecture which was built in the urban area. (3) to classify the Hybrid Hanok types and configuration model. (4) And the characteristics of design models were compared with those of buildings classified as hybrid type, based on the durability and efficiency of Hanok and modern architecture. Hybrid Hanok has a basic model that is applied only to vertical, horizontal convergence. Especially, Hybrid Hanok, which is vertically combined, can be selected from a variety of models such as a wall line matching, a protruding and a setback type. The results enabled discussions about the tradition and creativity of the Hybrid Hanok, and the design effect extends the diversity of design through contrasting architectural styles. It has opened the possibility to incorporate new modern technology into traditional Hanok, and it can be verified through mock evaluation.
