A Study on the Choice of Urban Parks for Family Leisure and the Recognition of Place and Environmental Values

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the family leisure activities and space & leisure satisfaction on the two city parks, and to analyze how the place and environmental value was evaluated according to the family’s reasons for choosing the park. The survey was conducted on women who visited urban parks with their families in Gyeongsan-si. For the analysis, frequency analysis, χ2 test, t-test, and ANOVA were performed on 223 people using IBM SPSS statistics program. The study results are summarized as follows. First, women visited to enjoy open spaces such as children’s play or outdoors and nature with their families. Second, families who visit park located farther away from home are more likely to bring picnic supplies, meals, and snacks. Third, women’s satisfaction with space was high for a park with a large area and various experience spaces, and leisure satisfaction was high when they thought that their children could actively play and have fun. Fourth, when the purpose of the visit was children’s play, the quality of family leisure was improved, the characteristics and image of the region were enhanced, and it affected the formation of a sense of place in the space. When the reason for visiting was rest, they gave a positive evaluation to the place diversity.
