Relationship about the Perceived Neighborhood Disorder and Subjective Mental Health

Abstract

This study evaluates the degree of perceived neighborhood disorder and their subjective mental health in the residents who live in Seoul. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between perceived neighborhood disorder and subjective mental health. The survey was conducted from June 27 to July 5, 2016 for adults over 20 years old who live in Seoul. A total of 770 respondents were surveyed using the web questionnaire and were analyzed. The contents of investigation consist of general characteristics, perception of neighborhood disorder and subjective mental health. The neighborhood disorder consisted of a total of 21 questions, including 9 social disorder and 12 physical disorder questions. The findings of this study are as followings; First, the subjective mental health was normal, and the subjective mental health of the married person was better than the unmarried person. Subjective mental health is increased as average monthly household income and education level. Subjective mental health of ownership residents is better than rented and rent residents. Second, the perceived neighborhood disorder is physical disorder is higher than social disorder. Third, there is a correlation between subjective mental health and neighborhood disorder. In particular, social disorder is more relevant than physical disorder with subjective mental health.
