A Study on Housing-related Index Affecting the Quality of Life of Young Households

Abstract

The housing problem has been discussed as an important issue for the young generation, and the government has expended the housing policy for the young people to solve it. However, since the housing needs of the young people are diverse, it is necessary to expand housing support according to a plan that can actually contribute to the improvement of their quality of life. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to derive housing-related indexes that would affect their quality of life. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted for independent young households between age of 19 and 39. As a result, it was found that housing-related objective indexes did not affect the quality of life of young people. Among the subjective indexes, ‘the overall satisfaction of the residential environment’ and ‘Degree of the burden on total housing cost’ had a great influence on the quality of life of the young people. Based on this study, locational characteristics and housing cost burden should be considered more than the characteristics of the housing itself. The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing customized housing policies to improve the quality of life of young households.
