Abstract

This case study aims to explore the impact of user participation on residential satisfaction in multi-family housing, based on the experiences of residents who participated in the design and construction process of Hamkke-Housing No.3 as future users. In South Korea, residents are excluded from the process of building houses, which is essential to human life, despite the enormous costs involved. In addition, in a situation where housing is increasingly recognized as a means of accumulating property in society, there is a lack of consideration of various factors that affect citizens’ housing satisfaction beyond economic value. To address this, a focus group interview(FGI) was conducted with residents of Hamkke-Housing No.3 to explore the correlation between user participation and residential satisfaction. The study revealed that user participation positively affected residents’ physical, social, and emotional well-being within their homes. Although physical satisfaction received the highest rating, the differences with other social and emotional satisfaction were minimal. These results indicate that promoting user participation in the housing process can enhance various aspects of residential satisfaction.
