Abstract

This study explores ways to better utilize unoccupied houses based on the result of questionnaires administered to experts for those houses in urban and rural areas. To select the subject area of the study, reviewed the urban regeneration new deal project which is a residential environment improvement project implemented and the Saethul community redevelopment project. The areas selected are as follows: Wanwol-dong, Bibong and Okbong area for the urban district, and Geumgok Village and Oeam and Naegok Villages for the rural district. The current environment of the selected areas AHP survey was administered to those working in the field of urban construction and experts with a good understanding of the selected areas, to explore ways to utilize unoccupied houses in those areas. The result of the analysis showed that the plan for the redevelopment of unoccupied houses in urban areas comprised for-profit projects with the intention of improving the residential environment. In this circumstance, the public sector purchases unoccupied houses and supplies them as public rental houses following their renovation. Conversely, for the redevelopment of unoccupied houses in rural areas, the project priorities were welfare, the creation of caretaking spaces, and the establishment of spaces for the rest and recreation of the elderly. This study analyzed experts’ opinions on ways to effectively use unoccupied houses in urban and rural areas.
