Abstract

The Babyboomer generation comprises of 7.30 million people, forming almost 14.1% of the Korean population as of November 2017. In 2035, boomers are projected to increase to 15.18 million people, taking up to 28.7% of the population. For these reasons, the need for research to realize the residential mobility to a place that can both reduce economic burden on the retired and provide healthy, relaxed lifestyle is becoming acutely necessary. The purpose of this study is to analyze the determinants affecting the residential mobility of the babyboomers retirement age. Based on the results of this study, it is aimed to contribute to the improvement of the housing welfare level of the babyboomers retiree and to provide as basic data for establishing future housing policies. To do this, this research has analyzed 11,457 boomer households out of 60,640 households shown valid from the Korea Housing Survey in 2017. From the results, it was shown that boomers who live in the metropolitan area, live in apartments or detached houses, live on rented houses, and are not satisfied with current residential status have the highest intention in moving residencies. This means that economic factors, especially whether or not the person owns housing property, have high influence on residential mobility.
