Abstract

This study aims to discuss the possibility of change in residential space through analyzing and typifying design properties of smart wall system from the perspective of Adaptable Architecture. Goal : 1) To derive a matrix to analyze technology applied residential space, based on the Adaptable Architecture theory 2) To investigate and analyze examples of patented “smart wall systems” technology, which are walls that combine various (smart) technologies. 3) To analyze the “smart wall” system using the Adaptable Architecture matrix and discuss the possibility of housing change. Method : Based on Adaptable Architecture theory, a matrix is derived that can specify Adaptable Architecture properties at each design stage and analyzed the properties of a case smart wall system. Seven smart wall cases were collected through patent technology research. Adaptable properties were comprehensively analyzed in the case descriptions, and 4 adaptation types, 5 design strategies, 16 building characteristics, and 14 design technologies were derived. It was suggested that it is possible to design a smart wall system that responds to various needs by using the Adaptable Architecture Matrix. In addition, it was analyzed that changes in the apartment structure system are essential in order to apply it to domestic apartment complexes. The smart wall system is expected to be actively utilized and evolve to apply technology to residential spaces.
